They Bleed Pixels is coming together quite nicely. I’ve been playing an early build and damn this game is DIFFICULT. I cannot finish the third stage, which you can see part of in this video - it’s the one with the jungle background.
Funny thing about composing this game - I’d originally taken inspiration from early screenshots and made music based on the feeling I took away from them, but as I began to see the game in motion, and then play it for myself, the music, too has been evolving from what was initially based on rather short loops to what now, to me at least, feels like complete compositions.
I played a show in Toronto on July 2 at Duffy’s Tavern as part of PIXELDANCE and my set consisted mostly of music from They Bleed Pixels. I had made a mix that was roughly 25 minutes long where each song flowed nicely into the next. Most the music in this game is a steady 130 BPM with the exception being the piece of music used in this trailer. The slower tempo makes it seem a little more foreboding and sinister. There’s still a lot of music to be made for this game, and the recent praise I’ve read online about this trailer and the mechanics used in the gameplay has me more excited to be a part of this project.
